Weatherhead High School is a single sex girls' academy school with mixed Sixth Form, located in Merseyside, in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral. The school wanted to transform their canteen from an institutional dining room into a fun and enjoyable dining area for their students, whilst retaining an easy to manage and clean space.
Dams worked together with customer David Ford Enterprises (DFE) on the project to refurbish the high school’s existing canteen space with a new, bespoke furniture scheme. DFE have worked with the school for many years, acting in both the designer and contractor and have carried out projects such as office, laboratory, reception and canteen refurbishments and alterations.
The school had a large canteen space used for student’s lunchtime dining, however it was closed for the remainder of the day. So there was also a requirement to use the space more efficiently by transforming the space into a fun and enjoyable multi-purpose canteen/study area for the sixth form students, with new furniture to create a dual use for the space allowing the study and the relaxation needed for the provision.
The selection of furniture was the key to meeting the objective. Dams and DFE worked closely together to meet the client’s needs by create a modern, space efficient solution which would provide the required number of seats to cope with the lunchtime rush, but at the same time achieving an environment that would be refreshing and an inspirational setting for pupils.
Dams proposed an eclectic mix of dining furniture solutions with Slab versatile table and bench combination units, complemented with Gecko dining chairs and tables with matching poseur tables and stools to create a colourful, sleek and modern theme.
The Slab table and bench combination makes a real visual impact, with its stylish, chunky laminated top and leg panels that make it stand out in any setting. Vinyl seat pads in 4 colours to match the Gecko dining chairs were added to make them more comfortable for pupils. The chic Gecko dining chairs and stools have a turtle shell design which is designed for maximum comfort and durability due to the easy clean curvaceous shape. Gecko seating is available in orange, red, blue and anthracite colour options for a fun and easy match with any decorating style, and together with the dining tables, offer a contemporary layer of style to any dining space.
Combining a diverse range of group dining table and bench sets with circular tables and stackable chairs, together with poseur tables and stools provided a very durable and flexible seating solution for this school canteen furniture scheme and it was all achieved within budget.
The design and installation teams focus on client satisfaction was reflected in both the schools and student’s fabulous comments and the ultimate use of the space.
